Welcome to Ritual + Ruins! Andrea Hornick offers workshops  and individual sessions - rituals and ceremonies - centered around group and individual drum journeys. These are always preceded by preparatory work in which she teaches skills for clearing space, protection, grounding and expanding, calling in helping spirits, trance, meditation, and practices for connecting with nature in daily life. All of this work stems from Andrea's life-long exposure and training in these skills, grounded in her own ancestral traditions as all cultures have indigenous roots. While they may have ancient underpinnings, they are intended for and contemporary life. 

All the tools are based in sound, breath, movement, and inner connection. Andrea's offerings for personal and collective healing and transformation are often focused on fine art practice and creative writing generated with intuitive tools. Her workshops are offered in-person, online, and in travel to historical sacred ruin sites. 

Andrea draws from lifetime of skills and tools, taught to her by prominent teachers from the age of 6, interwoven with the direct guidance that she receives. 

Her intention is for others to tap into their own wisdom, guidance, and intuitive depths.  She lives the tools she shares, weaving them into her daily and professional practices. She has 44 years of experience in core shamanism, including seven years of trainings with Sandra Ingerman, and having grown up with Michael Harner, was exposed to the practices from the age of 9. Over the past 35 years, Andrea has trained with various other indigenous practitioners and maintained yoga and meditation practices which she integrates with her daily intuitive practices. She has been sharing intuitive tools in the form of healing practice and teaching since 1994, and began sharing these tools in connection with gallery and museum exhibitions in 2015. 

Andrea has been an internationally exhibiting artist since 1997. Her work may be seen on andreahornick.com. She started teaching in fine art in 1992. Her paintings and text-based sound works are generated with her intuitive tools with others. She is represented by Sears Peyton Gallery in NYC and Los Angeles in the US. She is also a professor or fine art and creative writing and currently teaches at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, and previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania for a decade. Before that, she taught at Barnard College, Oberlin College, and the University of Auckland, as well as working as a teaching artist at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, the Jewish Museum, The Morgan Library, and the American Museum of Natural History. 

Healing the human connection with the earth and balancing masuline and feminine energies in order to do so is integrated into Andrea’s group and individual work.
